Score 95/100 · Drink 2022-2042, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2022

The inky hued 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Leonis is all varietal and comes from Pritchard Hill, St. Helena, and Coombsville. It was raised in 70% new French oak. The tannins are more polished and elegant here, and it has a layered, vibrant style in its ripe red and black fruits, toasted spices, loamy earth, and savory herb-like aromas and flavors. Textured, full-bodied, and downright impressive, it should evolve for at least two decades.

A barrel sample, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Leonis has a deep garnet-purple color and comes bounding out of the glass with big, bold, wonderfully pure scents of black cherry compote, blueberry coulis and chocolate box followed by emerging cassis, kirsch and cedar chest scents plus a hint of lilacs. Full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of rich, ripe black fruits and plenty of freshness, textured by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. Nice!
