The 2015 Clos des Baies offers notable depth, intensity and persistence. Black cherry, plum, violet, licorice and spice are all pushed forward in this racy, succulent Saint-Émilion. Hints of lavender, plum and spice meld into the expressive, succulent finish. This is a superb effort from proprietor Philippe Baillarguet.

The 2015 Clos des Baies is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet picked on October 1, and matured in 70% new oak with the remainder one-year-old. The bouquet is very refined and pure with small dark cherries, crème de cassis and blueberry. It is very floral and almost Maugaux-like. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. There is impressive depth here, quite a powerful and intense Clos des Baies with a touch of citrus fruit surfacing towards the finish. This is a stylish Saint Émilion that should drink well after 4-6 years.
