Good bright red. Aromatic nose combines redcurrant, tobacco, underbrush and flowers. Then concentrated but dry and tight in the mouth, even a bit tough today. Intensely flavored but lacking in finesse. Still, the fruit here is reasonably fresh for the year, and the tannins call for patience.

Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of black fruits, violet and chocolate, with an intriguing suggestion of white pepper. Large-scaled, ripe, chewy and rich. This is 13.8% alcohol, like the Clos Vougeot. The tannins are substantial but thoroughly ripe, and the finish is impressively long.

Sweet and medicinal, but lots of pleasure. Lots of density. Tannins should eventually fade. (JR)
