Tasting notes
Medium red. Explosive, wild, Cornas-like aromas of raspberry, game, truffle, smoke and leather, with notes of pepper and beefsteak tomato; this reminded me of a Verset wine. Then dense, sweet and fine-grained, with essence-of-syrah notes of black pepper, smoke and truffle to go with its intense dark raspberry fruit. The rising finish features sneaky persistence. The most impressive vintage to date for this bottling. This comes from a warm spot in a cool area, notes Jordan.

From Ehren Jordan’s estate vineyard, the 2005 Syrah Estate is a dead-ringer for a top-notch Crozes-Hermitage. Unfortunately, there are only 125 cases of this deep ruby/purple-tinged effort. Aromas of tapenade, creme de cassis, cherries, smoke, and charcoal along with good underlying acidity are found in this beautifully pure Syrah. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
