Good red-ruby. Currant, raspberry, menthol, loam and flowers on the nose, with some very ripe suggestions. Then silky and superconcentrated; thick and packed with flavor. Finishes very long and suave, with noble tannins and excellent lift. A bit darker in its fruit character and riper than the Dr. Crane. "These were more muscular at the bottling," said Mike Hirby about his two cabernets from Beckstoffer vineyards.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard (a fabulous site from which numerous outstanding wines have emerged) offers classic notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood, fruitcake, and spice box as well as gorgeous fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a 45-second finish. This sensational offering is clearly the finest of this Cabernet trio. Drink it over the next two decades. Production for these cuvees ranges from a low of 160 cases to a high of 400 cases. Tel. Good full ruby-red. Captivating aromas of blackberry, blueberry, pepper, minerals, menthol and flowers. Downright voluptuous on entry, then powerful and firm in the middle, with lovely acidity giving lift to the creamy dark berry and mineral flavors. A highly concentrated, complex wine with a very long, slightly exotic finish featuring firm but sweet tannins. Like the '05, this one struck me as a real essence of cabernet.
