Medium red-ruby. Explosive aromas of currant, plum, leather, tobacco and meat. Sweet and rich in the mouth, with highly complex and rather Graves-like flavors of plum, licorice, leather and aged tobacco. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins, lingering sweetness and a suggestion of burning tobacco.

(entirely from Carneros fruit as of vintage 2002; a 67/33 blend of cabernet franc and merlot) Ruby-red. Blueberry, minerals, currant leaf and leather on the nose. Then rather clenched and dry in the middle, with a dusty, leathery quality to go with its dark chocolate flavor. In a distinctly awkward, dry stage, and not showing the sweetness of the two 2003 merlo t cuvees
