Tasting notes
A wine of density and power, the 2016 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto is marked by its vertical build and overall sense of structure. Dense and pliant in its first impression, the 2016 has plenty of muscle lying in the background. Iron, smoke, wild berry, hard candy, spice and sweet floral notes all develop. Time in the glass brings out a more aromatic side of the wine's personality to complete things very nicely. The incisive Ovello tannins naturally need time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place.

Dried peaches, rose petals and orange peel all make for a very fragrant impression. Medium-to full-bodied and velvety in terms of tannin texture, but with underlying chewiness. Real kick of acidity on the finish. Drink from 2021.
Barbaresco. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Perfumed, sweet cherry and spice. On the palate strawberry, raspberry and cherry and an exotic hint of saffron and layers and layers of grainy tannins. Could be its youthful state that makes it look a little awkward although this has loads of concentrated fruit. (WS)
The 2016 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto is a tense and lithe, as wines from this site tend to be. Chalk, mint and red berry fruit are laced together in a nervy, energetic Barbaresco that looks to have a bright future.
