Good deep red. Aromas of spicy cherry, smoked meat, vanillin oak, plus a whiff of apple that reminded me of Calvados. Very concentrated but backward and disjointed, with spiky acidity giving the wine a spiny quality. Quite penetrating and dry at present, even aggressive. Very difficult to taste today, but I suspect it will come together with another 6 to 12 months in the bottle.
