Score 91/100 · Drink 2014-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2014

The 2011 Right Bank is medium and accessible, with lovely veins of aromatic brightness from the cool vintage. Sweet herbs, tobacco, smoke, licorice and dried rose petals are all laced together nicely in the glass. In 2011, the Right Bank is quite open, largely because of the significant presence of Merlot in the blend. Ideally, the 2011 is best enjoyed over the next few years. The blend is 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc.

Sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, tobacco, anise and mint are some of the many nuances that make an appearance in the 2011 Right Bank. Today, the 2011 comes across as a bit fragile and fleeting, which suggests it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later.

The 2011 Right Bank is composed of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Made in a more measured, restrained style with slightly lower alcohol, it possesses a dark ruby/plum/purple color as well as notes of blue and red fruits, medium body, an earthy character and more noticeable acidity. Not surprisingly, it does not have the depth or overall flavor dimension and breadth of the 2010. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Since I last tasted the wines of Conn Valley Vineyards, the excellent winery tucked away in the backwaters of Conn Valley, there has been a complete label makeover. Tel. (707) 963-8600

The 2011 Proprietary Red Right Bank is naturally lighter and more fragrant than the two preceding vintages, but it is very nicely balanced. Savory herbs, crushed flowers and licorice are all layered into the finish.
