Tasting notes
The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva is a gorgeous, rapturous wine. Black cherry, plum, lavender and sage all show the darker, more mysterious side of Sangiovese. Deep and fleshy in the glass, the Riserva retains the verve that makes the best wines off this estate so compelling, with fine tannins that are not always easy to come by in this vintage. Simply put, the 2015 Riserva is another impeccable wine from Volpaia, and the real hidden gem in the range. (AG)

Made with organically farmed fruit, the 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva (100% Sangiovese) is a very expressive and generous Tuscan red from a beautifully sunny and warm vintage. The wine is succulent, soft and round with lingering flavors of dark berry and summer ripe cherry. The mid-weight mouthfeel is balanced and very lively, thanks to the dazzling fruit that is teeming with spirit and energy. Some 60,000 bottles were produced.
An opulent nose of blackberry compote, elderberry reduction, blackcurrant essence, morello cherries, vanilla and resin. All of which follows through to a full body with lots of tannins and hazelnuts. A very powerful style for Volpaia. Needs three to four years to soften.
Radda in Chianti. 100% Sangiovese. Healthy crimson. Ripe and with mouth-filling tannins. Definitely long and with a nice chew to it, but it could do with a little more zip. (WS)
