Score 15.5/20 · Drink 2024-2028, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2024

Heavy bottle. A blend of 93.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.4% Malbec, 1.6% Petit Verdot and 0.2% ‘other grapes’. Aged for 20 months in 80% new French oak. Certified sustainable (Sonoma County). 1,586 cases produced. Inky opaque garnet. Smells of hazelnuts and oak, sweet berries and liquorice. Plush fleecy tannins wrap around a core of sweetish black cherry and plum. Decent acidity keeps things relatively fresh across the palate as the tannins seem to grow in strength and weight over time. The wine holds its prodigious alcohol reasonably well, but it comes across as slightly hulking and massive without much subtlety. Oak dominates the finish. (AY)

The inky black/purple 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Archimedes takes a brooding and forward profile in the glass, opening to reveal menthol, baked blackberries, lavender, and leather. Fleshy and full-bodied, it fills the palate with building, ripe tannins and an earthy finish. It should hold on over the coming 6-7 years. 1568 cases were produced.
