Tasting notes
Named for the estate vineyard's light-hued volcanic soils, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash Vineyard is anything but light-hued in the glass, with Venge's characteristic dark color and bold flavor on full display. Black cherries, cassis and raspberries all merge easily with vanillin and cedar accents, providing enough complexity to provide interest while still keeping the hedonistic fruit to the fore. It's full-bodied and ripe, plush and creamy in texture, with a lingering, seamless finish that adds hints of dark chocolate and mocha.

85% new, tight grained French oak barrels for a total of 22 months. Deep ruby. Pomegranate hibiscus tea on the nose with red and black cherry. High, precise acidity and mouth-coating powdery tannin. Lengthy finish. (SCJ)
From a vineyard in Calistoga that's south of the Solage resort, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash Vineyard is all varietal and spent 19 months in 85% new French oak. It has lots of savory red and black fruits, loamy soil, dried herbs, and obvious mineral notes to go with a concentrated, medium to full-bodied, layered style on the palate. It's pure and has terrific balance, fine tannins, and a great finish, all making for a brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon that will have two decades of prime drinking.
