The dark 2016 Dre Mourvèdre Wallula Vineyard starts with much of the aromas of the red fruits being drawn into the dark fruit category as if the wine had been pushed too far. The medium-bodied palate is bold and dark fruited but lacks complexity, structure and finesse. The finish is quick and hot. I really want to like this wine more, but I just can't muster up any more enthusiasm for it. 400 cases produced.

Checking in as 100% Mourvèdre that was aged in used oak, the 2016 Mourvèdre Dre has a smoky, meaty, yet pure style in its ripe black fruits, salted meat, and barbecue smoke-like aromas and flavors. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and plush on the palate, it has terrific purity as well as fine tannins. It's going to keep for 10-15 years.
(from ten-year-old vines in a hot site in Wallula, above the Columbia River): Bright dark red. Ripe but energetic aromas of musky black fruits, pomegranate, licorice and pungent black pepper. Suave, energetic and penetrating on the palate but with lovely creamy depth to its flavors of boysenberry, spices, black and red pepper and flowers complemented by a touch of salinity. Finishes with utterly plush tannins, especially for Mourvèdre. This wine was vinified without stems but should age gracefully. (15.5% alcohol)
