Tasting notes
Intense, honeyed and just a little smoky, apricot and barley sugar. Bitter, top-notch orange marmalade then in the mouth a nutty lightly burnt caramel flavour, a little like a sweeter style of madeira but more moderate acidity. Scrumptious. (JH)

The 2000 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is another winner. Made in a rich, viscous style, it evokes roasted nuts, baking spices, dried figs, cloves and roasted coffee beans with the slightly oxidative notes that are typical of this wine. 375 ml

Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012. Proprietor Paolo De Marchi seems to be on fire of late, as this is another set of gorgeous wines from his Isole e Olena estate.
