Tasting notes
The 2014 Loibner Grüner Veltliner Ried Loibenberg Smaragd offers a very clear and elegant bouquet with ripe fruit aromas, but also a nice purity. Round and very elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and fruit-driven Veltliner; it has a nicely vibrant acidity in the finish that also reveals a good grip.

Like the corresponding Kreutles, this preserves crunchy, nutty allusions to leafy greens, offering counterpoint without clashing with the ripe, zesty grapefruit and pit-tinged peach. The mid-palate is voluminous and subtly oily but a sense of citric brightness helps lend cut and penetration to an energetically sustained finish.
The 2013 Loibner Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Loibenberg opens with a lovely clear, fresh, multilayered and complex bouquet of lemons, white pepper, tobacco leaf and fresh pineapples. Full-bodied, stunningly racy, highly elegant (as always) and persistently salty on the palate, this is an impressive wine combining power with finesse and richness with purity. Very reliable quality, as always, but in 2013 it's much more than just reliable, it's an outstanding Gruner!
Smoke, riches and marked concentration – so much so that this wine is really quite heavy. (JR)
