Mulled cherries, mulberries, sappy underbrush, and some darker, earthier notes emerge from the 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, which is medium-bodied and has the classic savory, firmer style preferred by this estate, good mid-palate density, and outstanding length. It's going to benefit from a handful of years in the cellar and evolve for a solid decade. It's an outstanding, savory, complex Pinot Noir that leans heavily into the fresher, structured end of the spectrum.

Full bottle 1,400 g. Vineyards planted 1972–1999. Between three and eight miles from the Pacific – a declassified blend from the Sonoma Coast vineyards from which Jamie Kutch buys. Three-day cold soak and then natural fermentation and malo plus foot-treading. 75% whole cluster. All used oak. Aged for 15 months on lees. 20 barrels and 500 cases produced. Transparent garnet. Sweet start on the palate after a herbal nose. Easy to like, though not as fresh as the 2019 red burgundies I have just been tasting. Just a tad syrupy on the end. Sincere though. (JR)

Jamie Kutch's 2019 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a gorgeous, effusive wine. A burst of sweet raspberry, strawberry and rose petal gives the Sonoma Coast Pinot an exuberant, racy feel that is absolutely irresistible. Medium in body, with tons of sheer appeal, the 2019 is a glorious wine. All the elements are so nicely balanced. This is one of the finer versions I can recall tasting. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine. Vineyard sites are Bohan, McDougall and Mindego Ridge.
