A cuvée I had never tasted before, the 2013 Pinot Noir Champ de Mars is essentially old vine material from Dehlinger, with Côte de Nuits-like forest floor, blueberry and blackberry fruit notes, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish with sweet tannin and good acidity. This is lush and hedonistic, as well as an intellectually pleasing wine. Like most of the Pinot Noirs, this sees about 45% new oak and reflects the multiple clones of Pinot Noir that the Dehlingers use, including California Heritage clones such as Swan and Calera as well as the newer Dijon clones of 777 and 943. This wine should drink well for at least 15 more years.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Champ de Mars captures an attractive stylistic middle ground, with both expressive aromatics and plenty of fruit, all very nicely balanced throughout. The flavors are bold and punchy throughout. The Corazon, which is meant to be a fusion of Tom and Eva Dehlinger's ideals, is made from a combination of older vines planted in 1975 and younger vineyards.
