The 2016 Angeli is another textbook Syrah from the team at Stolpman and it has the depth and opulence of the Original Syrah paired with the structure of the Hilltops. Blackberries, ground pepper, bacon fat, and an undeniably minerality all emerge from this beauty. It's deep, has classic Syrah aromas and flavor, building tannins, and a great finish.

The 2016 Syrah Angeli is powerful, dense and plush. Done in a style that emphasizes textural richness and unctuosity, the Angeli will appeal most to readers who appreciate bold, super-concentrated wines. Super-ripe blue and black fruit, chocolate, licorice and sweet spice are all pushed forward. The Angeli is a pretty wine, but it lacks the complexity and frankly pedigree of the top Syrahs in the range. All that said, the 2016 is one of the better versions of this wine.

From ungrafted vines, the just-bottled 2016 Angeli offers up a youthful bouquet of cassis, smoky plums, grilled meat and licorice. On the palate, it's full-bodied, very powerful and concentrated, with lots of firm, chalky tannins which will demand some time in the cellar. Despite its size and scale, this Syrah's acids are juicy and it should evolve nicely for a decade or more.

The 2016 Syrah Angeli is supple through the mid-palate and firmly supported by a spine of crunchy acidity. Concentrated and energetic, it unfolds with layers of cranberry, smoked bacon and mint, all delivered with striking clarity. The tannins remain firm, a signature of the tiny berries and limestone soils at the estate, but they are beginning to integrate. This is a Syrah of depth and persistence that deftly combines muscle with finesse.
