Score 91/100 · Drink 2013-2021, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Oct 2011

The 2009 Pinot Noir Carter Vineyard is a dense, broad-shouldered Pinot with plenty of spicy dark fruit flavors, good balance, and a lengthy, pure finish. It will benefit from 1-2 years of additional cellaring and will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2021+. Ken Wright Cellars’ 2009 Pinot Noirs range from excellent to outstanding in quality but generally lack the structure, density, and richness of the great 2008 vintage. These are pretty, elegant wines to drink while the 2008s continue to fill out in the cellar. Tel. (503) 852-7070; www.kenwrightcellars.com

Vivid ruby. Cherry, blackberry, anise and mocha on the pungent nose. Oak-spiced dark berry flavors pick up sweetness and a hint of anise with air and show very good depth. Chewy and focused on the finish, with the dark berry quality clinging with good tenacity. This drinks well now with some air, but I'd age it for at least another couple of years.
