Tasting notes
Alluringly scented with floral sachet and herbal essences seemingly shadowed by their penetratingly high-toned distilled counterparts, this delivers bright, zesty fresh lime, grapefruit and apple on a glossy and expansive yet vibrant and buoyant palate. The reprise of inner-mouth floral perfume and coolingly green herbs is accompanied by smoky black tea and mouthwateringly sweet/saline, iodine-tinged, deeply savory shrimp-shell reduction. Kaleidoscopically interactive, infectiously juicy and capital-U umami-rich, this phenomenally concentrated, focused, vibrantly sustained Riesling is as fine as any I can recall from its site.

Zesty and fresh on the nose, the 2013 Riesling Smaragd Höhereck is a full-bodied, very mineral and straightforward wine with a lingering piquant and salty finish.
