2017 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru

Performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel last year, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux is showing superbly and is well worth seeking out. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp Anjou pear, green apples, iodine, wet stones and clear honey, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, with superb depth at the youthfully tight-knit core, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. Raised entirely in old barrels, this is a superb Butteaux that I purchased for my own cellar (in magnum).

Butteaux is such a great performer in 2017 and this Servin displays the richness and concentration of this cru, as well as freshness and appealing, fleshy depth. Such a good bottle of Chablis here with so much flavor. Drink or hold.

The 2017 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru comes from 37-year old vines in a single block. The bouquet is more expressive than the Les Forêts at the moment with apple blossom and light orange pith aromas. The palate is well balanced with subtle tropical notes, the vinification in used barrels lending more weight and roundness on the finish. This is probably an early drinking Butteaux, one that is well made.
