(from a vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain in Calistoga, harvested in 2011 on November 3): Good deep red. Plum and smoky oak on the nose. Nicely dense and sweet, showing more precision in the mouth than the nose suggests. Plum and mineral flavors communicate an impression of power. Relies as much on its sound acidity as on its tannins for structure. A very good 2011, particularly in light of the very late harvest.

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is pretty, nuanced and delicate. Floral notes meld into sweet red berries, mint and spices. The 2011 is intensely fragrant and delicate in this vintage, with terrific length and persistence, all in the medium-bodied style of the year. The 2011 will drink well pretty much right out of the gate.
