2018 Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard is another stellar offering from Turnbull. Winemaker Peter Heitz coaxes unreal finesse from this eastern Oakville site in the Leopoldina, a Cabernet that simply has it all. Jammy red-toned fruit, iron, dried flowers, chalk and blood orange all come alive with a bit of time in the glass. This is a gorgeous Oakville Cabernet endowed with terrific aromatic complexity and energy. In 2018, the Leopoldina is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is unusual for this wine. (AG)

Aromas of ripe blackberries, hazelnuts, cocoa and sweet tobacco. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins and a creamy texture. Polished and balanced. Try from 2022.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard displays a deep garnet-purple color, leaping form the glass with bright, energetic scents of blackcurrant pastilles, redcurrant jelly, black cherry compote and candied violets plus nuances of unsmoked cigars, fragrant earth, pencil shavings and iron ore. Full-bodied, rich and decadent in the mouth, the gorgeous, densely packed black fruit is beautifully contrasted by alluring tension and a wonderfully plush texture, finishing long with lots of floral and mineral fireworks.
