Tasting notes
The 2021 Barbaresco Il Bricco caresses the palate with crushed raspberry, cinnamon, rose petal, cedar, sweet spice and pipe tobacco. Sensual at first, the 2021 is deceptive, as it packs a pretty substantial punch of acidity, tannin and overall structure. I find it absolutely beguiling and wonderfully complex right out of the gate.

With fruit from the village of Treiso, the Pio Cesare 2021 Barbaresco Il Bricco has a defined mineral character of dusty chalk that lifts up above blackberry and dried blueberry. There are background hints of lilac, dried iris root, mint and garden herb. What sets this wine apart, however, are those elegantly chalky mineral nuances that sit nicely against powdery tannins.
Pouring a jeweled red color, the 2021 Barbaresco Il Bricco in Treiso has a more compact aromatic feel with good intensity, opening to notes of dried cranberries, menthol, anise, and fresh redcurrants. The palate is actually more approachable and has lovely balance with its fruit, matching the underlying structure to have a long and even balanced feel throughout. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe tannins, a balance feel, ripe acidity, and good length through the finish. Drink 2025-2040.
