Taking in the 2017 Etna Rosso N'Anticchia is like opening a cedar box full of cloves, dried flowers and spice drops. Beneath it all, a beguiling mix of black cherries and hints of candied citrus rinds can be found. This is lifted and delicate in feel, deceivingly so, with vibrant acidity that further enhances the ripe red fruits and spices within, yet also a mix of saline-minerals and fine-grained tannins that slowly saturate with each passing sip. The 2017 finishes structured yet lively, pinching at the cheeks with youthful tension as sweet herbal tones fade. What a gorgeous expression of Nerello Mascalese, and one that shows no sign of the warm vintage. The N'Anticchia is made from a selection of older vines throughout the Pietro Caciorgna vineyards on Etna. The wine refines for eighteen months in a 50/50 combination of new and second-pass French barriques.
