Just as good is the 2008 Syrah Kick Ranch from a vineyard planted on rocky volcanic-based hillsides. The wine includes 6% Viognier in the blend, which provides tremendous uplift to the aromatics (blackberries, blueberries, flowers, chocolate, and spice). Rich, voluptuously textured, dense, and pure, it is a tour de force in Syrah winemaking. Again, the price is amazing for a wine of such quality. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. Bravo to Morgan Twain-Peterson for proving that the younger generation is more than capable of kicking the older generation’s butt in terms of high quality wine! Made by Joel Peterson’s son, who appears to have already eclipsed his father in producing high quality wines, these are all innovative additions to the world of Rhone Ranger wines. (includes 8% co-fermented viognier) Glass-staining purple. A full-blown, fruit-dominated bouquet displays blueberry, boysenberry and smoky Indian spices. Lush and creamy in texture, offering nearly liqueur-like black and blue fruit flavors framed by supple tannins. The spicy note returns on the finish, which is smooth, broad and impressively persistent. This will drink well young. No stems were used in making this wine.
