Tasting notes
(100% cabernet sauvignon; from barrels that did not make the cut for this producer's top cabernet bottling): Bright ruby-red. Slightly aggressive aromas and flavors of cassis, licorice, menthol, bitter chocolate and loam. Fat, sweet and lightly saline, conveying a chewy impression. Finishes with dusty, tongue-clenching tannins that avoid coming off as dry.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon DR II is loaded with sweet dark berries, freshly cut flowers and mint. A surprisingly open, juicy wine for the year, the DR II impresses for its radiant personality and lovely balance. The 2010 should drink well upon release and for several years beyond that.

(mostly from Moose Valley Vineyard): Good medium ruby. Dark berries and licorice on the nose. Supple and creamy but a bit youthfully closed; in a more powerful style than the 2009, showing more mid-palate material to support its toothdusting tannins. Seems riper.
