From another super heavy bottle, the 2019 Offida Rosso Ludi is a blend of Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The effect is bold and bulky with plummy black fruit, baked blackberry, cedarwood, cured leather and baking spice. The wine sports very heavy fruit weight, and there is a touch of bitterness on the close.

Dusty and floral, the 2019 Rosso Ludi opens in the glass with a blend of musky black currants, plums, a dusting of cocoa and crushed violets. This is velvety and undeniably elegant with a burst of zesty acidity and citrus-tinged wild berry fruits that excite the senses. The Ludi finishes incredibly long and lightly structured with a staining of primary concentration as hints of blueberry and licorice linger on. This is a beautiful example of Offida Montepulciano, complemented by a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with a deft use of new French oak. Don’t let the heavy weight of the bottle fool you, this is first-class juice.
