Score 92/100 · Drink 2011-2022, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Nov 2023

2009 was the first vintage the Rojo matured for 18 months before bottling, as the élevage until then had been shorter. The 2009 Emilio Rojo feels quite evolved, with an oxidative note. Most vintages should be drunk up to 12 or so years after the harvest. Only exceptional years seem to be longer lived. Time to drink up.

(a blend of treixadura, loureiro, lado, albarino and torrontes; no oak) Bright straw. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of lemon, lime, green apple and melon, with sexy floral and herbal notes gaining power with air. Vibrant and concentrated, displaying juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a strong undercurrent of salty minerals. Fleshier than the 2008, showing more depth and finishing power and leaving sappy pear and apple notes behind. This is delicious right now.
