Tasting notes
Full glass-stoppered bottle 1,225 g. From a two-hectare, west-facing vineyard at 300 m planted in 1991. Located around the town of Barolo, it has been organically farmed since 2010. The Nebbiolo vines are the Lampia clone and are grown on rootstock K5BB. Produced to showcase the youthful expression of Nebbiolo. The selected grapes were destemmed, crushed and placed in stainless-steel tanks where fermentation took place at controlled temperatures. Maceration lasted 6–10 days. The wine then underwent malolactic conversion at 18–20 °C, before being aged in tank until the following spring. The wine was made organically, with minimal addition of sulphites. Very pale ruby. Light, fresh and fruity until the crunch of tannins on the finish. So honest and appealing! This would be a great educational tool to demonstrate the qualities of the Nebbiolo variety, unaffected by ageing of any sort. This is a fairly delicate wine with fine acidity that probably needs careful food matching. Initially I thought it should not be served with anything too strongly flavoured, although the tannins would go well with some fatty pork dishes actually. I could imagine it with that Brazilian pork and bean dish feijoada , funnily enough. A really pure pleasure to drink. (JR)

A release of some 12,400 bottles closed with a glass cork, the organic Giacomo Brezza e Figli 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo reveals a light appearance with ruby and purplish highlights. This wine hits all the basics, offering fresh berry fruit, bright acidity and an easy-drinking style. This is a textbook entry-level expression of Nebbiolo to enjoy with a classic dish of liver and onions to bring you back to your old healthy self.
