Tasting notes
Score 96/100 · Drink 2014, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2012

Subtle layers of lightly honeyed fruit, almonds, spices and pears wrap around the palate as the 2010 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet shows off its class and personality. With time in the glass, the wine continues to open up as it gains richness and textural volume. The 2010 is pure Bienvenues in its silkiness and overall polish. Intense saline notes appear on the finish, but in the end the Bienvenues is all about textural elegance and sheer finesse. The 2010 is a fabulous effort from Jacques Carillon.

Anticipated maturity: 2014+. (Not yet released) Jacques Carillon did not have an easy go of things in 2010, the first vintage he made and bottled on his own after he and his brother Francois divided their family’s domaine. Rain and cold weather during the flowering took with them 20-25% of yields in the village level wines and as much as 40% in the premier crus. The 2010s spent one year in barrel (15%-20% new), followed by six months in steel. The 2010s were bottled from March to June 2012, starting with the simplest wines first.
