Antica’s 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is a delightful surprise, as it has aged impeccably. Bright red-toned fruit, cinnamon, freshly cut flowers, mocha and mint are nicely delineated in this elegant, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from the Antinori family. There is a bit of edginess in the tannin, but then again, we are on Atlas Peak.

Antica's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a gorgeous, beguiling bouquet laced with dark red cherries, cinnamon, new leather and mint. Floral and spice notes continue to develop in a soft, pleasing Cabernet Sauvignon that is built for near-term pleasure. The 2011 impresses for its gracious personality and overall balance.
The estate's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon wraps around the palate with lovely depth in its expressive, resonant fruit, showing no hard edges and excellent balance. Espresso, mocha, plums, cloves and freshly cut flowers are all layered into the vibrant, delineated finish. The energy and tension of the 2011 are super-impressive. Antica did not bottle their flagship Townsend Cabernet, opting instead to use that fruit to strengthen their regular bottling. Based on the sample I tasted, that seems to have been a great decision.
