Austere opening, juicy and confident with red fruits, cloves and chalk, but needs time to fully open, this is pretty closed down right now but with potential for softening and opening over ageing. Harvest 23 to 27 September. Aged in no new oak across 225l and 400l casks.
The 2024 Lucia has quite a modern, slightly oaky nose that seems simpatico with the black fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with rather dry tannins. It feels just a bit woody, even though there is only 20% new oak from Taransaud. That will need to integrate during its élevage. I have enjoyed previous vintages and maybe this will come out well in the end.
Round, supple, forward, and fruity, there is a lot of chocolate filled charm here along with nuances of licorice, espresso, and red plums on the palate, as well as in the finish. The wine is made from 90% Merlot, with 10% Cabernet Franc.
