The 2024 Soutard is a blend of 48% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Malbec. The unusually high percentage of Cabernet lends this even more aromatic range than usual, and the wine bursts with notes of rose petals, cherries, cassis, mint and spices. Medium to full-bodied, with a layered, fleshy core and a perfumed finish, this is a strong effort.
Bright fruits, plenty of limestone grip, white blossoms, lemongrass, steely character, white plum and cherry pit, has charm and a wave of gentle gunsmoke. Austere as so many are in the vintage on this soil type. Understated, savoury, soft landings.
The 2024 Soutard is quite bold and alluring in this vintage. Floral and savory notes open first, followed by a burst of dark red-toned fruit. In 2024, Soutard is not terribly complex, but its balance is impeccable. The long, sensual finish only adds to its considerable appeal. There's more Cabernet Franc in this year's blend, an approach that works well. Tasted two times.
