FINE+RARE, Apr 2025

The fruit at Duhart-Milon is normally harvested a week later than at Lafite, but this year it was picked just one day later, from 25th September. The resulting wine offers a nose with vibrant red fruit and an earthy, savoury character. The palate is a lighter style, but well-balanced, with crunchy fruit framed by fine tannins. There’s a pleasant floral and herbal lift that emerges with air and a mineral, saline finish that leaves your mouth watering. 13% alcohol and 3.6pH, aged in 50% new oak. Blend: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot

A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, the 2024 Duhart-Milon was cropped at 32 hectoliters per hectare, and it was here that the Lafite team concluded the harvest. Offering up aromas of cassis and red berries mingled with hints of violets, pen ink, licorice and toasty oak, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with a round, integrated, charming profile, concluding with a moderately persistent finish.

Shows density and balance, with leafy but fragrant aromatics that unfurl slowly, and bright acidity that is not overpowering to the blueberry and blackcurrant fruits. The skill of the Lafite team is clear here, and this is a classically balanced Duhart that will age well. Harvest September 25 to October 4, 32hl/h yield, above the Pauillac average. Moulin de Duhart is not being sold En Primeur.

This is superb Duhart with sleek, shimmeringly clean flanks and a long, smooth, refined finish. There is a sense of coolness and calm throughout, and it never seems to break step or feel too urgent. Unlike last year’s wine, which seemed tense and eager, this is Zen-like and refined, and the finish is generous, with discreet ripples of tannin and acidity, which further heighten the experience. I hope the price falls sufficiently for newcomers to Duhart to take the plunge. They will not be disappointed.
