The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is initially closed on the nose but develops nicely in the glass, displaying impressive mineralité and terroir expression for a Village Cru. The cohesive palate is well balanced, with a fine line of acidity and a brisk, saline, marine-influenced finish that is top-drawer. Try to grab a couple of cases of this.

Very attractive aromatic definition with an array of stones, minerals, yellow and white peaches and a bright, almost floral edge. Beautiful elegance and purity on the long palate. The peach, grilled-hazelnut and yellow-citrus flavors hold long. Drink or hold.

Already bottled, the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Village displays attractive notes of honeyed pear, tangerine and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and fleshy, with an elegantly textural attack, a pure core of fruit and a nicely defined, stony finish. This is a charmingly open but nicely succulent Chassagne that should drink well for a decade.

Bottled 10 October 2018. Véronique Drouhin explained that this was a 'very vibrant appellation in 2017. Juice was very nice so we kept a lot of lees and left the wine on the lees for a long time – didn't need much stirring.' Very creamy on the nose, such a contrast with the Chablis Les Clos. Creamy and mealy – that wonderful aroma that tells you you are in Burgundy. Crisp and tight on the palate but perfectly balanced between the freshness and the citrus fruit. Chalky finish. Good length. (JH)
