Striking deep purple colour. Dusty nose with some black tea. Dense, fully ripe fruit, yet thankfully dry, with a creamy oak overlay. Layers of complexity (tea, white pepper, liquorice) on a firm frame. Fresh-tasting and long. (LM)

One of the finest offerings in this group is the 2004 Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard. A perfumed nose of flowers, cherry liqueur, and cassis is accompanied by a medium-bodied, elegant Pinot displaying earthy, dusty soil undertones and plenty of red and black fruits. It cuts a deeper, fleshier swath across the palate. It should be drunk over the next 4-5 years. Tel. (408) 354-6150
