Tasting notes
61 per cent Napa, 39 per cent Sonoma. This blend from Kendall Jackson's old Artisan & Estates is rich, full and flattering. Well put-together wine, if slightly sweet. Beginning to fade at the end. (JR)

The 1996 Cardinale is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, of which 62% came from Napa and 38% from Sonoma. Just under 3,000 cases were produced. It is also a top rank wine, and a star of the vintage. A saturated purple color is followed by licorice, cedar, fruit cake, and black currant aromas. Full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with low acidity but high tannin, this young, muscular classic should have fabulous aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2028. Tel.
