Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2022

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding wine, as well as a great value in Napa Valley Cabernet. Both red and black fruits as well as dried herbs, savory spices, and background oak define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, balanced, and impeccably made. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

Basically an assemblage of the best barrels, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 1886 is a clear step up from the other wines being produced at Ehler's Estate. Aged in 65% new French oak for 22 months, it combines aromas of brown sugar, cassis and black cherries jubilee on the nose. Full-bodied, concentrated and tannic but velvety and long on the finish, this sturdy effort needs time but should have the fruit to last.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is an exuberant, fruity wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Black cherry, chocolate, sweet spice and leather are pushed forward.
