Tasting notes
Full bottle all of 1,442 g. Fruit from various sources throughout the state from vines with an average age of 80 years. Spontaneous fermentation. Morgan Twain-Peterson's Zin for drinking at 5–10 years. Glowing, shaded ruby colour. Meaty, savoury nose. Very appealing. Sweet start and very gentle, seductive palate. I found it hard to spit this out! yes there's a little dry dustiness on the end but it's beautifully balanced. Full of lively fruit too. Refined and confident, this wine demonstrates that one needn't always go for the more geographically precise appellation. Just a tiny bit of heat on the end. (JR)

The 2020 Zinfandel Old Vine is a forward, boisterous wine that will drink well right out of the gate. In this vintage, the Old Vine is especially perfumed, a reflection of the sites used in this year's blend. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry, spice, licorice and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. The Old Vine is built on a core from Bedrock, plus dollops from Esola, Schmiedt Road and Nervo Ranch. It's about 85% Zinfandel and 15% mixed blacks. Drink it over the next handful of years.
