An especially bright, brilliant gold color catches the eye before aromas of Anjou pear, sliced almonds and figs waft up from the glass. Full body backed by lively acidity make a great mouthfeel in this powerful, flavorful and handsomely oaky wine. Lemon-zest and marzipan notes mingle on the palate, while underlying acidity and a mineral quality bode well for aging. Best from 2024. Jim Gordon

The 2017 Chardonnay Cerise Vineyard aged 19 months in 61% Austrian oak and 9% new French oak. It has an inviting nose of preserved lemons, gunflint, dried white flowers, a classy framing of new oak spice and a core of pastry, spiced apples and white peaches. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded, silky and classically styled, with a great interplay of oak spice, ripe fruits and savory notions, finishing very long with just enough freshness. This is a beauty, and I can't wait to see later expressions of this down the road. "We bought the Cerise vineyard in 2016," mentions assistant winemaker Julien Howsepian. "This 2017, we think, is much better already now that we control the farming." 225 cases were made.
