Tasting notes
The 2017 Mâcon-Uchizy Les Maranches unfurls with aromas of freshly baked bread, warm oatmeal, yellow apples and subtle hints of smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, though it retains the domaine's signature precision. There's some muscaté Chardonnay planted here, and that likely lends the wine some additional generosity.

2 ha (nearly 5 acres) giving two foudres. Next to the village of Chardonnay. Nearer to and tempered by the River Saône. There are several valleys in the Mâcon so the sites are very varied and some north-facing ones are really good. Bottled. Tangy green fruits on the nose. Ripe greengage, zesty. On the palate, succulent fruit, lime and greengage, rounded and still very fresh. Softly textured, creamy but with depth of fruit. Lifted by a tangy, crisp finish. (JH)
