Tasting notes
Coming from the estate's 36 hectares of vines and mostly Merlot (there are small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Malbec), the 2020 Château De Pitray is a total charmer, delivering up-front, smoky red and black fruits, some leafy, herbal, earthy tobacco nuances, medium body, and a clean, classy, balanced style that's perfect for near-term drinking. It's well worth seeking out and would be one heck of a house red.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Nina Mitjavile (Tertre Roteboeuf) consultant winemaker. Round, full and gourmand with notes of dark, ripe fruit. Toasted oak present as well. Juicy on attack and through the mid palate but slightly drying on the finish. Change of consultant winemaker so a new departure this year. (JL)
The 2020 Pitray is a soft, fruity Côtes de Castillon to drink young, while the fruit remains vibrant. Juicy red/purplish berry fruit, sage, mint and dried herbs finish with pretty savory accents that are just shy of vegetal.
