Tasting notes
Bright, dark red. Expressive nose melds black cherry, cassis, mocha, bay laurel and sage, plus a whiff of tobacco leaf. Smooth, vinous and sweet; at once easygoing and deep, with cherry and dark berry flavors complicated by dusty herbs and cocoa powder. Suavely made, seamless wine with smooth tannins and excellent length--and much more pliant than the 2017 was a year ago. Just lacks the grip and thrust for an even higher score. Ultimately the lightest of these reds.

Dark ruby with a soft purple edge, the 2018 Mystique is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine shows delicate red and black juicy fruits, a subtle floral tone, hints of dried herbs and soft mineral tension. Medium to full-bodied, flavors of red cherry, black raspberry, blackberry jus, savory herbs (sage and thyme) and sweet oak spices of cinnamon and vanilla linger across the mid-palate. Showing a balanced structure with finesse and precision, the wine persists with a plummy nature and fine herbal essence on the succulent finish. Well done.
Already bottled, the 2018 Mystique is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc brought up in French oak. This plush, sexy red has full-bodied richness and depth as well as loads of black and blue fruits, notes of Asian spices, chocolate, and dried herbs, an expansive, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. It’s a beautiful, pleasure-bent effort to enjoy over the coming decade.
