The 1986 Ygrec was showing splendidly after more than 30 years. It has developed an intriguing petrol-like nose that you might well pin down as a mature Riesling, though it is complex and well defined, developing complementary scents of mandarin and lanolin with time. The palate has impressive weight in the mouth, notes of dried pineapple, hazelnut, lemon rind and white pepper, later a touch of star anise on the finish. It is very well balanced, an Ygrec that has developed real personality. Captivating! Tasted June 2017.

Rich and sweet seeming. Waxy, rich and deep – quite different from the Haut-Brion whites. Not heavy. (JR)
