Tasting notes
The 1995 Barolo Vigneto Riva exhibits copious quantities of cedar, smoke, and cherry fruit in its evolved aromatics. With good fat and medium to full body, it is a hedonistic, evolved, lush Barolo to enjoy over the next 7-10 years. A new estate from the village of Verduno, Alario Claudio produces small quantities of hedonistic, sumptuously-styled Barolos that are fermented in open-top fermenters and aged in 60%-80% new French oak casks. Medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of smoky, charred oak and nuts. Lovely supple, smoky, plummy flavor buttressed by ripe acids. Very good depth. Finishes with rather suave tannins. A gentle, forward wine.
