Tasting notes
70% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier, from premiers crus Bisseuil (80%), Mesnil-sur-Oger (15%), Mareuil-sur-Aÿ (5%). 80% from 2020. Tirage April 2021, disgorged July 2023. Dosage 4 g/l. Beautiful nose. Fragrant. Floral. Quince and honeysuckle. Rounded and petalled and gingery and little tip-top notes of caramelisation. This is a wine that wants to be loved, wants to be charming, wants to please and delight. And within the context of dozens of grower champagnes for which ideology, complexity and sophistication come before drinkability, a wine like this is genuinely a delight. It reminds me of the orange, fuzzy-skinned peaches my mother would buy by the crate load when they arrived on the train which had belched its coal-fired way from the Ceres Valley in South Africa to dusty little Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. Bit of burnish. Gingered oranges. Yes, I'll have another glass of that, please. VGV (TC)

70% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier from Bisseuil, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Le Mesnil-sur-Ogier. Dosage 6 g/l. Rounded, friendly apple fruit with a touch of dill. A touch of yogurt creaminess. Clementine acidity. Good for remoulade! (TC)
Mainly (80%) 2018. Lots of good stuff on the back label. Light but pleasing nose. Pretty explosive mousse and a bit sweet but bravo for all the info! Just a little sickly on the finish. (JR)
Disgorged in November 2018, the new release of Gonet-Medeville's NV Brut Premier Cru Tradition is showing very well after a year on cork, offering up an expressive bouquet of honeyed peach, oatmeal, Meyer lemon and subtle hints of the nutty complexity to come with further aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a pinpoint mousse. Not only is this an excellent Champagne, but it's a remarkably good value, too.
