Score 91/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

The 2021 WCS Tannat is blended with 9% Syrah and was matured for 17 months in 46% new and 39% once-used French oak. It's scented of black and red currants, cocoa powder, aniseed and herbal undertones. The full-bodied palate offers concentrated, blue fruit supported by chewy tannins and bright acidity, and it has a long, floral finish.

The 2021 WCS Tannat is shockingly good. Based on 91% Tannat and 9% Syrah from the Jada Vineyard, it has a deep purple hue as well as wonderful blue and black fruits balanced by a complex nose of underbrush, leafy herbs, pepper, loamy earth, and some bloody, iron nuances. It's rich, full-bodied, has good acidity, and ripe, perfectly integrated tannins. This beauty is terrific today, yet I have no doubt it will evolve for another 15+ years. Joshua Harp’s Jada Vineyard, with help from Napa’s Tony Biagi, has leapt into the top handful of producers in Paso Robles over the last few years and these 2021s might be the best yet.
