Pale ruby in color, the 2019 Pinot Noir Apex Vineyard takes some time to open its scents of sour cherries, dried citrus, tobacco leaves, chaparral and graphite tones. The light-bodied palate is grainy and fresh with an alluring touch of rusticity to its earthy flavors, and it has a long, layered finish. 346 cases produced.

Vivid magenta. Fresh red/blue fruits, exotic spices and potpourri on the nose; a zesty mineral overtone builds in the glass. Juicy, seamless and energetic in style, offering vibrant raspberry, boysenberry, cherry preserve and candied lavender flavors and building spiciness. Conveys a deft blend of power and finesse. Finishes with sneaky tannins, sharp definition and impressive, floral- and mineral-driven persistence.
Black raspberry, toasted spices, peanut, and some meaty nuances all emerge from the 2019 Pinot Noir Apex Vineyard, another medium-bodied, elegant, slightly streamlined and narrow Pinot Noir. It shines for its pretty, supple character and is best drunk over the coming 4-6 years. This is the finest lineup I’ve tasted from Tolosa, and winemaker Frederic Delivert continues to up the quality here. While these came mostly from the cooler Edna Valley in the past, it looks like they’ve branched out and the lineup includes a bevy of wines from throughout California. In general, this are cool-climate, lower alcohol wines that shine more for their classic, elegant, and complex profiles.
