Tasting notes
Full red. Smoky cherry and dark berry aromas, complicated by beef jerky and licorice nuances and a touch of violet. Deep, chewy and focused, with intense dark fruit flavors and a late note of bitter chocolate. Showing less elegance that its stablemates right now. Finishes with solid punch and very good persistence, with the smoky note repeating. Here's an '08 that's in the process of shutting down; let it rest.

The 2008 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard is a big, back-strapping style with a beefy character that comes up a bit short on elegance and subtlety but not in power. This tannic, medium-long offering will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and drink well for another10-12+ years. Adelsheim Vineyards’ 2008 Pinot Noirs are uniformly outstanding as they were able to take advantage of the great fruit provided by the vintage. Tel. (503) 538-3652; www.adelsheim.com
